Survivalist/Prepper Acronyms, Abbreviations, Terms and Definitions
This will be a growing list, so feel free to add to the list by leaving a message.
To help you find what you’re looking for, I’ll make two lists, the first being “Most Common” and the second being everything.
Most Common:
ALICE: All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment.
BIL: Bug In Location. The location you plan on staying in case a bad event occurs. Example: If SHTF I’m staying home. My BIL is within one mile of a river.
BOB: Bug Out Bag. A pre-packed bag you plan on grabbing before you leave/Bug Out. Also called an Emergency Bag or EBAG.
BOL: Bug Out Location. A location you plan to go to in case a bad event occurs. It’s normally pre-stocked with goods/preps you deem necessary for survival.
BOV: Bug Out Vehicle. The Vehicle you plan to use to get to your bug out location.
BUG IN/BI: Stay in. Normally used to state that your plan is to stay at the location you live. If SHTF I’m bugging in.
BUG OUT/BO: To leave in a hurry.
EDC: Every Day Carry. The items you carry every day. Example: Pocket knife, Mini flashlight, Multi-Tool credit card, Pepper spray
GHB: Get Home Bag. A pre-packed bag you carry in your car or take everywhere that you plan on using to get home or to your bug out location from someplace besides your home. Example: From work/store/friend’s house TO home/bug out location/safe place.
LEO: Law Enforcement Officer
MIL-SPEC: Military specification. Something made to military standards
MILSURP: Military Surplus.
MOLLE: Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment
MRE: Meal Ready to Eat
PARACORD: Parachute Cord
PREP(S): Preparations. My Preps (Preparations) are almost finished.
PREP: Prepare.
PREPPER: Prepared Individual. A person who prepares for disasters or hard times. Example: Someone who keeps extra food, water and an alternative heat source in case of earthquake, tornado or blizzard.
SHEEPLE: Sheep People. Normally referring to people who don’t think for themselves or those that just follow what everyone else is doing.
SHTF: Shit Hits The Fan. Referring to something bad happening, normally an unknown event. Example: Natural disaster, War, House fire.
TEOTWAWKI: The End Of The World As We Know It.
WROL: Without Rule Of Law.
